    Prison camps were full of pellagra from protein malnutrition and poor nutritional balance. In the poor South of the USA pellagra was a scourge of the poor maize-eating classes.

    Old food culture is worth preserving. Fermented milk is a prophylactic against traveller's diarrhoea. Washing the cassava is protecting against chronic cyanide toxicity.
